GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER ...within Mokoroa

The other week we used our Chromebooks within our writing time to complete information about ourselves.  Ask your child to share what they wrote on their template. This writing will be within the Writing Folder.

You might want to take the opportunity to write some extra information on in with your child.

NUMBER KNOWLEDGE

PLAYING ROCKET

Today we worked with a buddy and learnt how to play the number game 'ROCKET'.  Whoever had their ROCKET filled with numbers first was the winner.

With the two dice used, we were able to make two numbers.  We then had to choose which number to use and write it on our rocket.   The game helped us sequence numbers and it was fun!

 

READ&WRITE

Rachel our RTLB came into Te Ana Ako to work with us and show us how to use a fantastic tool which will support us when we are writing,  listening to stories and reading stories.
One of the tools is being able to listen to what we have written, to check it sounds correct.  Amazing!!

Mr Riceman, Mrs McLellan and Mrs Law can also record their voices beside our work to give us feedback and what to work on next!    This is really helpful.                     

MATHS INVESTIGATION

We decided to find some 'real life data' for our statistics investigation during Maths.

We all know Hillsborough Road is very busy before and after school,  but maybe not so busy at 12 o'clock - midday.

To collect our data, we thought 15 minutes would be enough time to get a snapshot of the road usage.

To collect the information we worked with a buddy and chose whether to count ....

DIFFERENT COLOURS OF VEHICLES

or 

DIFFERENT TYPES OF VEHICLES.

This data was collected in the form of a tally chart which could be totalled.

Back in the classroom we were able look carefully at our findings to make statements and predictions. 

 

 

 

KAWA OF CARE

         Cybersmart with Gerhard

Each Thursday Gerhard visits our classroom for our Cybersmart learning. He helps us  and guides us how to look after our chromebooks safely and use them responsibly.  This is our Kawa of Care.

Today we learnt how to SMRF a document. These are the steps we follow.

We have practised....

-moving around safely
-holding our chromebooks with our thumbs up
-typing gently on the screen
-placing the chromebook -carefully and safely on a table with two hands
-logging off the chromebook when we have finished   
-storing it safely

2019......WELCOME......2019

OUT OF THE BOX!!
The 2019 school year started for Mokoroa on the 7th February. We are part of a shared learning space with the students of Kaiwhare, along with Mr Riceman and Mrs McLellan.

It was a very exciting first day.  We spent time getting to know our new friends and class mates making connections with others in our syndicate, 
Te Ano Ako. 
     

                  
Soon it was time to get our new chromebooks.  This was very exciting!  After we opened our chromebooks and set up our details we then explored our new syndicate site.  
We are really looking forward to sharing our learning with you on our blogs. Please check regularly to see what we have been doing.  It is going to be a great year....so much learning for all of us.

ROAD SAFETY WITH CONSTABLE CYRUS

Thank you Constable Cyrus for teaching us how to keep safe when we are walking along the footpath. 

We now know  to STOP,  LOOK and LISTEN before walking over  'sneaky driveways'. 

We also now know how to cross the road safely.
